What can artificial intelligence do for us?
Artificial intelligence can add a lot of capabilities to human kind. It is not just limited to computers, but also cars, homes and other devices. From the beginning of time, humans have been limited by their lack of strong cognitive capabilities and artificial intelligence has been used for a long time. In 1964, Herbert Simon predicted the use of AI with its pattern recognition power that it would replace man completely at some future point in time. By 2013, we could make AI work on mobile devices that were not just restricted to computers, but from smaller appliances such as phones and tablets.
With continuing advances in technology, can artificial intelligence replace human intelligence? One way in which artificial intelligence is used to replace human intelligence is by matching people with jobs. This can be seen through the employment of robots as cashiers in many stores or restaurants. Sometimes, where it goes beyond replacement, artificial intelligence has been used for automated diagnosis for diseases that were previously diagnosed by humans. Artificial intelligence is even being used in the medical field to design pharmaceuticals.
The major drawback of artificial intelligence is that it does not possess the judgement of a human being. For performing any task, the human being can determine what needs to be done and also have a sense of empathy for other people. This can be seen where artificial intelligence realizes that some course of action will ultimately lead to loss and so decides not to do the task. This can lead to loss of profit to the business. The major disadvantage of artificial intelligence is that it cannot communicate with other people effectively. This can lead to it becoming stagnant because there is no feedback or acknowledgement between itself and the business that it works for.
